Physics of dark matter clustering : from cosmology to statistical physics

Description du sujet et de la nature du travail :

The theoretical research of this group attempts to contribute to improving our
fundamental understanding of the physics of the evolution of purely
self-gravitating systems of particles, such as dark matter in current models of
structure formation in the universe. To do so we use approaches coming
from statistical physics, studying for example simple toy theoretical models, and
working more broadly on the physics of systems with long-range interactions
(of which Newtonian gravity can be considered as just one example).
The thesis student could, according to his or her preferences and
competences, define a specific project more oriented towards applications
in cosmology, or, on the other hand, towards statistical physics. Likewise
a more analytical or numerical emphasis could be chosen. A good theoretical
background is a prerequisite.
